The Appomattox County Rescue Squad was established in 1961 as a non-profit all volunteer organizaiton to provide emergency medical care to the people in the Appomattox area. Members provide emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the 345 square mile area surrounding Appomattox. The team consists of 35 members, with 18 of them trained in advanced life support. The Captain of the Appomattox Rescue Squad is Mike Johnson. The squad has three ambulances, one crash truck, two boats and a nine bay facility with a large meeting and training area. The squad answers over 1200 calls annually. Today the squad still depends on donations from the community and is still a totally volunteer agency. |
