Appomattox Recreational Park (Proposed) |
Appomattox County has proposed construction of a beautiful recreational park which will include ball fields, frisbee golf course, hiking trails, picnic areas, and an amphitheater. The park is currently in the planning stages. Click here to see a layout of the park. |
Phase one is now underway!
* December 2, 2002: The Appomattox County Community Park Committee is granted approval to request bid proposals for the construction of the cloverleaf of ballfields.
* January 6, 2003: Phase one grading contract is awarded to the low bidder D.S. Nash Construction Company. D.S. Nash Construction is a highway and heavy construction compnay located in Appomattox. They have been in business since 1976.
Phase two is now underway!
* March 20, 2003: The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board
approved allocation of
$ 260,000.00 to provide funding for Appomattox County Park's primary access
road and bikeway.
* July 1, 2003: The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) approves a Virginia Outdoors Fund; Land and Water Conservation Fund (L & WCF) grant of $ 200,000.00 in support of park developments at Appomattox County Community Park.
* October 16, 2003: The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board Approved a supplement allocation of $ 50,000.00 to totally fund the park's entrance road.
* December 2003: D.S. Nash Construction completes construction of Phase One; a cloverleaf of four baseball/softball fields.
* May 17, 2004: Phase two grading contract is awared to low bidder Pearson Construction Inc. Pearson Construction is a highway and heavy construction company located in Appomattox.
* August 14, 2004: Appomattox Senior Girl Scout 2056 Troup dedicate's a professional disc golf course as the first playable venue at Appomattox County's Rec Park. These four young ladies participating with several professional disc golf players as design consultants and a siginificant number of local business contributors took on this project as their individual Senior Gold Award Projects. * December 20, 2004: Phase three grading contract is awarded to low bidder Pearson Construction Inc. Phase three consist of two tee ball size ball fields and three asphalt parking areas to accomodate 258 vehicles.
