 of Candles:
A Special Christmas Celebration
In Appomattox

This Appomattox tradition first started more than 15 years ago with the goal of bringing the community together to celebrate an "old fashioned" holiday.  Owners of each business and residents in town are asked to place a single white light in each window and to decorate for the season using traditional greenery and red ribbons.  The result is breathtakingly beautiful in its simplicity.  On the evening of the Community of Candles, the community gathers at the county courthouse for caroling, and each participant then carries a single lighted candle to the depot for a brief service, hot apple cider and the Yule Log ceremony. The Community of Candles Celebration is a very popular attraction and has been written up in Southern Living Magazine.

6:00-7:00 p.m. - Bible Baptist live nativity at Courtland Field

5:35 p.m. - Candles distributed by the Appomatox County Assembly, Inc.
5:40 p.m. - The Candle Walk led by the Citizens of the Year
5:45 p.m. - Welcome by Sammy Carter, Board of Supervisor
5:50 p.m. - Miss Appomattox to lead singing of Christmas Carols
5:55 p.m. - Refreshments-Hot Chocolate, Spiced Cider & Cookies
5:55 p.m. - The Appomattox County High Jazz Band
