MEDICAL:

A public health department offers a variety of services including a pharmacy,  nursing, home health, family planning, environmental health and laboratory services.

There are five doctors, two dentists, two optometrists, one chiropractor, two veterinarians and one clinic servicing the public.

We also have two nursing homes in the area. Babcock Manor is a licensed 33-bed assisted living facility. Appomattox Healthcare Center is a licensed, 60-bed, skilled care, long term care facility.

Hospitals serving Appomattox include The Lynchburg General Hospital (19) miles with emergency services available 24 hours a day; Virginia Baptist Hospital (19) miles; and Southside Community Hospital in Farmville (25) miles.

The region is also served by a number of volunteer rescue squads including the Appomattox Rescue Squad, Concord Rescue Squad, and Gladstone Rescue Squad. We also have two helicopter air rescue services available for serious medical emergencies. They are Med Flight III out of Lynchburg and Pegasus of the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
