NATURAL RESOURCES:

There are 155,561 acres of commercial forest land in Appomattox County with loblolly, shortleaf and Virginia pines, elm-ash-cottonwood, oak-pine, and oak-hickory the dominant forest types.  Non-commercial forest use includes the Buckingham-Appomattox State Forest with approximately 9,000 acres.

Mineral deposits include sand, gravel, clay, marble, limestone and quartzite.

Ground water is available at an average depth of 150 feet with an average production of 8 gallons per minute.
