PARKS & RECREATION:

The U.S. National Park Service operates the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park which is located about 3 miles north of Appomattox. This park is located on the original site of the Appomattox Court House and all of the buildings are restored to the year 1865, when General Robert E. Lee surrendered and the US Civil War was ended. Other recreational programs are offered by the county, town and private sources.  Public facilities include ballfields, tennis courts and basketball courts, and a private 18 hole golf course and country club. In addition the county has under development the new Appomattox Recreational Park.

Parks include Holliday Lake State Park in the Buckingham-Appomattox State Forest (about 9000 acres), The James River State Park,  a Community Recreational Center (six acres) which includes a ball field and a playground, and a children’s Community Park (three acres).

Paradise Lake Family Campground - campsites, lake, swimming, fishing,  game room, picnics.

Holliday Lake State Park - campsites, lake, swimming, fishing, picnics, boating, hiking trails, horse trails, 4-H center. Click here for pictures.
