1) Hiking Trails: There are lots of trails around which offer wonderful scenery! Holliday Lake State Park and James River State Park have marked trails. About one hour's drive to the mountains will bring you to Devil's Marble Yard (area of Big Island). Crabtree Falls (in Nelson County). The Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Bedford County. 2) Fishing & Camping: We have some of the best fishing and camping right here in Appomattox County. James River: Need a canoe? You can rent one at the canoe livery in Bent Creek. James River State Park which is loaded with fun places to explore. Holliday Lake State Park which has a nice swimming area with life guards. You can also rent boats and do some fishing at the park. Paradise Lake: Has a swimming and camping area. 3) Recreational Sports: There is softball, baseball, soccer, and swimming, for all ages. Check with the County Recreational Center, your local church, or the Appomattox Youth League to sign up. The community center also has basketball courts which are open to the public. 4) Swimming: Holliday Lake State Park Miller Park (Lynchburg, VA) 5) Parks: Appomattox Town Park (Appomattox) and Miller Park (Lynchburg) 6) Movie Theaters (Lynchburg, VA) at River Ridge Mall, The Plaza, and Movie’s 10 7) Drive In Movie Theaters (Near Fork Union/Bremo Bluff; approx. 1 1/2 hours away) 8) Bowling Alley (Lynchburg and Farmville) 9) Malls (Lynchburg); has arcade, food court, theater and plenty of shopping. 10) Putt Putt (Lynchburg and Farmville) 11) Pool Hall (near Big Lots in Lynchburg) 12) FunQuest (Lynchburg); skating, arcade, food, host birthday parties. 13) Amazement Square (Lynchburg); lasertag, jungle gym, educational area. 14) Sporting Events: Baseball with the Lynchburg Hillcats (Lynchburg) 15) Volunteer to help others at your church or favorite civic organization. |
